About the AWMAI - board membersKerry Kilburn earned a 4th dan in TaeKwonDo at the Martial Arts Education Center and a 1st dan in TAOS Cielo y Tierra Arnis at TAOS Martial Arts, both in Chesapeake Virginia. She is currently training in Tang Soo Do and Gracie Jiu Jitsu at the Norfolk Karate Academy. She taught at the Martial Arts Education Center, first as an assistant and eventually as Senior Instructor, for 10 years, and looks forward to using that experience in the service of her new school. Kerry has been involved in the larger women’s martial arts community since 1999 when she attended her first Special Training. A lifetime member of both the NWMAF and AWMAI, she served on the NWMAF Board of Directors for 2 years and co-coordinated the Planning Committee for ST 2006. She joined the AWMAI soon after it was formed and is now a lifetime member of that organization as well. She brings to her new Board position a passion for teaching and a commitment to providing for other women and girls the transformative experience training in the martial arts has been for her. When she’s not training, you can find Kerry working at her “day job” as a Biology professor at Old Dominion University or riding her Thoroughbred mare, Jordan.
